Working with multiple Agile Programs on a single Portfolio Item

Record and show that Program contributes to Portfolio item that is not self-initiated

On the Split tab of an Agile Program, you can bring in a Portfolio item.

Only one Program can bring in a Portfolio item on the Split tab. However, in practice, multiple programs may contribute to the same Portfolio item. In order to record this situation correctly in Fortes Change Cloud, it is possible to link an item from a linked Portfolio on the detail page of a Program item:

Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

The moment a Program contributes to a Portfolio item, without this Program having brought in the Portfolio item on the Split tab, the Portfolio item is shown on the Split tab of the Program. The Portfolio item name now has a light yellow shading instead of dark yellow:

Note:that if none of the Programs have pulled in the Portfolio item, Programs can contribute to the Portfolio item, but the Portfolio item will not be shown on the Programs’ Split tab. Thus, to show the Portfolio item on the Split tab, it is necessary for one of the Programs to bring in the Portfolio item.

Showing multiple Programs contributing to the same Portfolio Item

A new overview has been added that shows which Programs with Program Items contribute to the respective Portfolio Item.

At the time when multiple Programs contribute to the same Portfolio item, the Program that brought in the Portfolio item displays the “Program items delivered by other Programs” link, followed by the number of Program items that other Programs contribute.

When you click on the link, the following overview is displayed:

In this example, Program 1 has brought in the Portfolio item (yellow shading). Programs 2 and 3 contribute. The names of Program 2 and Program 3 are clickable, so you can quickly navigate to the appropriate Program.

At the time a Program contributes to a Portfolio item, but has not itself retrieved it, the link “Retrieved by:” is displayed under the Portfolio item name, completed with the name of the Program in question (in this example, Program 1) and the number of Program items that other Programs contribute to the Portfolio item.

When you click on the link, the following overview is displayed:

Your own program is always shown at the top. The remaining contributing programs are then sorted alphabetically by name. The program that brought in the Portfolio item is shaded yellow.
