Dashboard

Introduction

What is the Dashboard Tab? The Dashboard tab in the Portfolio functionality of Fortes Change Cloud is a visual workspace that consolidates key portfolio data into interactive charts, graphs, and indicators. Based on embedded Microsoft Power BI, it provides a real-time overview of strategic performance, enabling users to monitor progress, spot trends, and identify areas that require attention, all in one place. Dashboards can be customized to reflect the specific needs of different stakeholders, offering both high-level summaries and detailed insights into portfolio health, financials, risks, key results, and more.

Who Uses It? The Dashboard tab is used by a wide range of stakeholders involved in portfolio management and strategic execution, including:

  • Executives and Senior Leadership, to gain a quick, visual understanding of strategic progress and portfolio performance.
  • Portfolio Managers, to monitor key metrics and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • PMO Teams, to track governance indicators and support reporting.
  • Program and Project Managers, to stay informed about the broader context of their initiatives.
  • Business Analysts, to explore trends and support data-driven decision-making.

What Value Does It Deliver? The Dashboard tab delivers value by:

  • Providing Real-Time Insights: Offers up-to-date visualizations of key metrics, enabling faster and more informed decisions.
  • Enhancing Strategic Oversight: Helps leadership maintain a clear view of how the portfolio is performing against strategic objectives.
  • Improving Communication: Translates complex data into intuitive visuals that are easy to share and understand across the organization.
  • Supporting Proactive Management: Highlights deviations, risks, and opportunities early, allowing timely interventions.
  • Enabling Customization: Allows users to tailor dashboards to their specific role, focus area, or reporting needs.

Using the Dashboard tab

The dashboards are powered by embedded Microsoft Power BI. For information on interacting with filters, drilldowns, and navigation within dashboards, see the PowerBI dashboard documentation.

Resetting a dashboard to the model default

If a portfolio dashboard has drifted from the standard template, you can reset it to the configuration stored in the portfolio model without needing to reconfigure it manually.

  1. Open the Dashboard tab of the portfolio.
  2. Click the ⋮ menu in the top-right corner of the report.
  3. Select Reset report to default.

The dashboard reverts to the template configuration stored in the model. This is useful when you manage multiple portfolios that should maintain consistent dashboard layouts: configure once on the model, then reset any portfolio to align with that standard.

Note: Resetting a dashboard in the Insights App or directly on a model reverts to the factory-standard report configuration rather than a model template.

Visual calculations

Visual calculations let you enrich Power BI visuals with computed values (such as running totals, moving averages, or percentage-of-total) without changing the underlying data model. See Dashboard (Insights) for step-by-step instructions.

Best practices

  • Reset to model after making experimental edits to restore a clean baseline.
  • Align dashboard layouts across portfolios by configuring the master template on the portfolio model.
  • Narrow the data horizon in the Insights App if dashboards are slow to load with large historical datasets.
