Azure DevOps application link

Introduction

What is the Azure DevOps application link? The Azure DevOps application link is the starting point for integrating Fortes Change Cloud with Azure DevOps. It registers FCC as an authorized application in Azure DevOps and links an Azure user, establishing the secure connection that allows both platforms to exchange data.

Who uses it?

  • Administrators and integration specialists who set up and maintain the Azure DevOps integration.
  • Portfolio and program managers who benefit from synchronized team and work item data between Azure DevOps and FCC.

What value does it deliver?

  • Establishes the secure, authenticated connection between FCC and Azure DevOps required for all further integration steps.
  • Enables FCC to retrieve work items, statuses, and team data from Azure DevOps, and to write mapped field changes back to Azure DevOps.
  • Forms the prerequisite for configuring team mappings, field synchronizations, and webhook-driven updates.

:::note Two-way synchronization Once a field mapping is configured, the connection works in both directions: updates in Azure DevOps are fed back to FCC, and changes to mapped fields on linked FCC items are written back to the connected Azure DevOps work item. See Two-Way Sync with Azure DevOps for details. :::

You can connect Fortes Change Cloud to Azure DevOps by registering FCC as an application and linking an Azure user. This integration enables secure and streamlined collaboration between both platforms.

This guide shows you how to:

  • Register FCC as an app in Azure DevOps
  • Link an Azure user to FCC

Best practices

  • Use a dedicated Azure DevOps account with the right permissions, rather than a personal account, so the link does not break when someone leaves.
  • Log in as that account before creating the link; FCC acts as whoever is signed in to Azure DevOps at that moment.
  • Create the link once and reuse it across team configurations; you do not need a separate link per team.

FAQ

Which user does FCC act as?
The Azure DevOps user that was signed in when the link was created. Use the intended integration account.

Do I need a separate link per team?
No. One application link can be reused across multiple team configurations.

Is the synchronization one-way or two-way?
Two-way once a field mapping is set up: FCC retrieves data from Azure DevOps and writes mapped field changes back. See Two-Way Sync with Azure DevOps.
