Kanban
Introduction
What is the Kanban tab?
The Kanban tab in the Agile Program app provides a visual board for managing program items across status phases. It gives teams a clear picture of what is in progress, what is waiting, and what is done, supporting continuous flow and agile ways of working.
Who uses it?
- Agile team managers: to manage and update the status of program items during a sprint.
- Program managers: to monitor progress across all status phases.
- Team members: to view and update the items they are working on.
What value does it deliver?
- A visual, real-time overview of work in progress across all status phases.
- Integration with Jira and Azure DevOps, keeping external items in sync.
- Bulk import capabilities for efficiently onboarding large backlogs from external sources.
How to use the Kanban
The Kanban tab uses the general Kanban that can also be found in the portfolio and project apps. For more information on how to use the Kanban, see the Kanban documentation.
Import items from Jira or Azure DevOps
In the Agile Program app, you can add cards to Kanban boards that are linked to Jira or Azure DevOps items. A connection with the relevant team must be set up first. See Jira Connectivity or Azure DevOps Connectivity for setup instructions.
Bulk import of Kanban items via the Integration Dashboard
You can bulk import Kanban items through the Import/Export module instead of adding them one by one. This is useful for larger deployments or when migrating data from an external source.
To configure a Kanban import task:
- Open the Import/Export module and create a new task with data type Plan item.
- Set the import condition to Create.
- Select the parent type that the imported items should be nested under:
- Plan item: nest under an existing plan item.
- Log types: organize under built-in categories such as risks, issues, or actions.
- ART: place the items within an Agile Program.
- Projects: assign items to a project.
- Map the fields as needed. The Source field is automatically set to Kanban and cannot be changed manually.
- Run the import task to create the Kanban items in bulk.
