Custom fields
Under Customize fields, custom fields are managed per object type. Custom fields extend the FCC data model with organization-specific information, and can optionally be calculated automatically.
Object types
Custom fields are defined separately per object type. Click an object type to manage its fields:
Portfolios, Folder, Portfolio Item / Project / Programme, Product / Plan item, Issue, Risk, Quality review, Change, Action, Lesson learned, Order, Organisational Unit, Resource / User group, Entry, Time Sheet, Time Sheet Row, and Team.
In the tree, object types are coloured orange when a field has a calculation warning and red when a field has a calculation error.
The field list
Per object type, the list shows each field with its active state, internal name (e.g. 'Custom42', fixed, used in calculations, imports, and integrations), display name, order number, category, type, default value, and whether it is editable and/or calculated. Use + to add a field, the edit button to change one, and History to see previous changes to a field's definition.
Editing a field
The Edit custom field dialog contains the following settings:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Field | The internal name and object type (fixed) |
| Available for use | Whether the field is active |
| Name | Display name. Only alphanumeric characters, spaces and/or [ ] ( ) _ - + : . & are allowed |
| Order Number | Sorts fields within their category on detail pages |
| Category | Group the field under a new or existing category |
| Abbreviated name | Field name used when categories are displayed |
| Tooltip | Help text shown to users |
| Visibility | Show on property pages: whether the field appears on property pages |
| Editable | When checked, the field is editable by the owner; otherwise it is read-only |
| Type | The data type (see below) |
| Width (in pixels) | Display width in grids |
Some types have additional options. For example, an Object Reference field also has a Reference Folder Type (which object type can be referenced, e.g. Portfolio Item) and a Reference selection option (allow selection from all non-archived objects). This checkbox lets a user select from all objects, not only the objects that user has the rights to see.
Confirm with OK, or use OK and New to immediately define the next field.

Advanced
Click Advanced in the Edit custom field dialog for the advanced options:
- Delete custom field: removes the field definition.
- Recalculate custom field: recalculates the field's values for all objects.
- Calculation, Calculation option, and Conditions: the XML configuration that makes a field calculated or conditional. See Calculations.
Warning: The dialog states it explicitly: only change the Calculation, Calculation option, and Conditions settings when instructed by Fortes.
